eBay to shut down operations in Israel, over 200 employees to be laid off

After years of downsizing, eBay has decided to end its Israeli operations by Q1 2026.

eBay is closing its operations in Israel, Calcalist has learned. On Tuesday morning, employees were informed that the company plans to shut down its entire Israeli operation by the first quarter of 2026. All employees will be laid off as part of the phased closure, which affects more than 200 people.
This move follows several previous rounds of layoffs, during which most of the company’s marketing and sales staff were dismissed, alongside the winding down of major development activities.

eBay’s research and development center, located in Netanya, was originally established following the company’s 2005 $620 million acquisition of Israeli price comparison site Shopping.com. A few years later, eBay also acquired local startup The Gift Project.
In a statement, eBay said: “As a global company, eBay continually assesses our operational footprint to optimize support for our people, customers and long-term strategic objectives. After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close our office in Israel in the first quarter of 2026. We remain committed to providing support to our employees throughout this transition.”
